Who Makes The Best Burgers In San Antonio

When it comes to the best hamburger in San Antonio, an argument can be made for several local restaurants. And in a pinch, some of the fast food chains produce some tasty burgers too.

Magazines and newspapers solicit votes from their readers and  eaters to come up with what they believe are the tops in the land. I guess that’s OK, but each of us have our own tastes and preferences. So the list in the Express-News may differ from the list in The Current.  That doesn’t diminish the worth of either list. But I go with my ranking.

So here are my top three:

Chester’s Hamburgers-This is my top burger joint. I like to watch the cooks prepare my burger. They generally cook it just the way I like it. I like mine medium well, can’t take the rare beef. The fry’s are adequate, but I really like the onion rings.

Longhorn Cafe-They’ve got one they call the “Big Juicy” at the Longhorn. I’ve only eaten at the one on Blanco Road, near Loop 1604. They have four locations in San Antonio and one in New Braunfels. Everything’s fresh at the Longhorn.

Sam’s Burger Joint-When I worked downtown this was a great place to get a good burger. I’ve not been down there in a while, but I remember this place had great food.

Now there are several other great burger joints in San Antonio. I’ve heard that Chris Madrid’s has great burgers, but I’ve not been there so I don’t have them on my list. In a pinch, I can do Burger King or Wendy’s. Maybe my palate is not as discriminating as a true burger gourmand, but I like what I like.

Although I like burgers, I don’t eat them as often as I did when I was younger. Limited to once every six weeks or so. And that is really helping me keep my weight down. Burgers in moderation as I get older is what works for me.
